School Readiness at Kindergarten Entry

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2019-2020
This indicator shows the percentage of kindergarteners whose fall PALS-K scores were at or above kindergarten readiness levels before entering school.

Why is this important?

PALS-K helps measure children's literacy concepts before they enter school. It is a measure of several important literacy fundamentals: alphabet recognition, phonological awareness, concept of word, knowledge of letter sounds, and spelling. PALS-K helps match literacy instruction to specific literacy needs and provides a means to identify children who are relatively behind in their acquisition of these important literacy skills.
