Meals are distributed daily, Monday-Friday from 3:00-5:00 inside the school’s cafeteria and cover supper for that night and breakfast, lunch, and a snack for the following day. Supper will be served hot while other meals will be a mixture of pre-packaged, ready to eat items as well as "heat and eat" items. Meal bags will come with preparation, food safety, and allergy information.
Meals may be picked up at any open school. Parents may pick up meals for Norfolk Public Schools students and should be prepared to provide the student’s lunch ID information and school in which they are enrolled. Additionally, when picking up meals please wear a mask per Governor Northam’s Executive Order 61 and observe social distancing practices inside the school building.
If your child has special dietary needs please contact the School Nutrition office at 757-628-2760 to request an accommodation.
To better accommodate the community, there are now 8 school sites and 3 delivery buses serving as Grab and Go pickup locations throughout the city of Portsmouth.
Starting Tuesday, September 8, meals will be delivered daily, Monday through Thursday each week. Buses will stop long enough to deliver meals and then proceed to the next stop.
Students/parents are encouraged to arrive at the stop several minutes before the scheduled time. Families coming to meal delivery sites are asked to do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 - make sure to wear a mask and adhere to socially distance guidelines while waiting in line.
While the division is in virtual instruction, all of our schools will be providing free breakfast and lunch meal bags to all children 18 and younger during the 10:30 a.m. –1:30 p.m. pick up schedule beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day (Sept.8).
We will use the same curbside grab-and-go model for meal delivery that was used during summer food service. A table for pre-bagged breakfasts and lunches will be set up at each site in a location convenient for parent pick-up.
A child should be present to take a meal. If this is not possible with the virtual instructional schedule, then parents or those designated to pick up meals by the parent should complete COVID-19 Parent Meal Waiver No Child Present form or at the pickup location and give it to the cafeteria staff when picking up meals for the first time. This is only filled out at the initial pickup. For subsequent pickups, only the student names need to be provided to the cafeteria staff.
