Natural & Built Environment Priority Areas

Greater Hampton Roads communities have identified the following priorities for improving the natural and built environment outcomes in the region. Click on the goals buttons below to see our objectives and selected indicators. More information on how we are doing in all the natural and built environment indicators as well as specific information for each city and county can be found on the Community Dashboard. You can view additional information specific to the climate of our region on our Weather and Climate Change Dashboard. 

All goals with hyperlinks relate to indicators for the South Hampton Roads region only, however, we are working to incorporate indicators from the Peninsula. These indicators are compared to their prior year value; the green icons represent improvement and red icons represent a decline from the previous year.

Goal 1: Residents have access to quality and affordable housing

Objective 1.1: Increase housing affordability in Hampton Roads
 
Objective 1.2: Decrease the number of people who are burdened by the cost of housing

Objective 2.1: Increase the number of options for purchasing healthy food products in Hampton Roads

Goal 4: Residents have access to healthy physical activity

Objective 4.1: Increase opportunities for general exercise

Extreme precipitation days are a model-based estimate and defined by those days in which the daily maximum precipitation exceeded the 90th percentile threshold.
