Description
The Kahiau ("to give generously or lavishly from the heart, without expectation of return") Program was established by Castle Medical Center to focus on helping local residents who had a non-medical emergent need. The program identifies needs of individuals or families in the community and puts together projects to address those immediate needs. Projects are organized by Castle Medical Center's Chaplain Services and are completed in one or two weekends by hospital volunteers.
Goal / Mission
The Kahiau Program addresses the non-medical needs of individuals and families in the community served by Castle Medical Center.
Results / Accomplishments
The Kahiau Program has targeted the growing problem of homelessness, the near homeless, and at-risk seniors and children in Hawaii. Projects have included repairing homes of elderly and single parent families to make them safe and livable. For future projects, the program will contact local businesses to enlist support with donations or discounts on materials and supplies.
